Imaginarium Launches ‘Turandot delle Stelle’ Tour

By David Salazar

Tuscan artist duo Imaginarium will embark on a world tour celebrating the centenary of Puccini’s “Turandot” with a multimedia performance.

“Turandot delle Stelle,” which blends live music, hand-drawn illustration, and digital scenography, is conceived by Francesca Pasquinucci and Davide Giannoni. The tour is being realized in collaboration with Italian Cultural Institutes and embassies worldwide, and carries the patronage of the Giacomo Puccini Foundation of Lucca.

The project reframes the opera’s legendary protagonist not as a person but as an unreachable star, a constellation of cultures. Giannoni’s score engages with Puccini’s original orchestration while opening outward to electronics and treated strings, and incorporates field recordings of wind and birdsong made near the Imaginarium studio in Viareggio.

The tour opens Sept. 3, 2026 in Tokyo in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute there, followed by Seoul on Sept. 9. The Seoul performance will feature the Hangang Factory trio, a gugak fusion ensemble.

San Francisco follows on Nov. 23, again through the local Italian Cultural Institute, before the tour reaches Italy for a special performance on Nov. 28 at the Teatro Sociale di Como, where Giannoni will be joined by the Coro 200.com.

Further stops are still being announced. The tour is planned to conclude with a digital album and international documentary capturing the encounters between musical cultures at each venue.

“Turandot” had its world premiere on April 25, 1926 at the Teatro alla Scala.
