The Santa Fe Opera has canceled two performances due to air quality.

The company first canceled its August 10 performance of “Madama Butterfly” and is now canceling its August 11 performance of “Rodelinda.”

In a statement company said, “The safety of our artists, staff and audience is our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to monitor conditions and will share updates as they become available.”

According to local news, “Significant smoke is coming off of the Frijoles fire that is on the mountains above and north of Santa Fe that has settled down into the Santa Fe metro area and surrounding locations resulting in an Air Quality Alert for the Santa Fe area. The Air Quality alert will be in effect until 10am on August 12.”

Ticketholders will have the options of exchanging ticket(s) for another evening within the 2026 Season or for another evening within the 2027 Season. They can also donate their tickets as a tax-deductible charitable contribution to the Santa Fe Opera or get a refund for the face value of the ticket(s) to the original form of payment. The company is also offering a Gift Certificate for the face value of the ticket(s).

The Santa Fe Opera is set to return on August 12 for “Eugene Onegin.”
