Ildar Abdrazakov Cancels All July Performances

By Francisco Salazar

Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov has canceled all remaining July performances.

In a statement via social media, “Dear friends, it is with great regret that I have to cancel my participation in the productions of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich: Modest Mussorgsky’s ‘Boris Godunov’ and Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Don Carlos.’ I needed to take a break from my schedule and cancel all July shows. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

The news comes days after the Munich opera stated that Abdrazakov had to cancel his engagement as Boris Godunov for family reasons. As previously announced, Alexander Tsymbalyuk will replace him in the Mussorgsky opera; however, no replacement has been announced for “Don Carlo” as of this writing.

Abdrazakov’s website is currently down but according to Operabase, the bass returns to the stage in the fall for performances in Monte Carlo.
