Ildar Abdrazakov has withdrawn from upcoming performances of “Boris Goduonov” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

The company noted that Ukrainian bass Alexander Tsymbalyuk will replace the controversial Russian bass.

The news comes days after the Bayerische Staatsoper released a statement regarding his hiring and said, “We have the two existing contracts for the opera festival. We value him as an artist very much. But beyond that, nothing is planned for the time being. So he won’t be there in the near future to sing at the house, but in the next season, he will appear at the Vienna State Opera, in Paris, Rome, Zurich, and Monte Carlo. So it’s not that the whole world doesn’t let him sing anymore and Munich is an exception.”

Abdrazakov still has two performances of “Don Carlo” scheduled in Munich on July 18 & 31 and then will return to the Paris Opera, Monte Carlo Opera, and Opernhaus Zurich next season.

Tsymbalyuk joins a cast that includes Ryan Speedo Green, Daria Proszek, Emily Pogorelc, Christina Bock, Gerhard Siegel, Sean Michael Plumb, and Vitalij Kowaljow.
