Igor Golovatenko to Headline Mariinszky Theatre’s ‘Simon Boccanegra’ Alongside Valery Gergiev

Igo Golovatenko is set to headline the Mariinsky Theatre’s “Simon Boccanegra.”

The Russian baritone will perform on Sept. 12 in a production by Andrea De Rosa and will be conducted by Putin supporter Valery Gergiev.

The cast will also include Irina Churilova, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Sergei Skorokhodov, Yaroslav Petryanik, and Oleg Sychov.

Golovatenko recently withdrew form a production of “Aida” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and is set to perform at the Krasnoyarsk State Opera And Ballet Theatre. He will also return to the Teatro alla Scala for “The Pearl Fishers,” and will also perform at the Metropolitan Opera’s “Diamond Jubilee: 60 Years at Lincoln Center.”
