The Hungarian State Opera will debut a new version of Richard Wagner’s final opera “Parsifal” later this month.

On April 15, 17, and 23 the company will present its new production with staging by András Almási-Tóth and set and costume designs by Sebastian Hannak and Lili Izsák which are intended to evoke a more modern appearance. This production originally was supposed to be premiered in 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.

This production will feature tenor István Kovácsházi, mezzo-soprano Andrea Szántó, baritone Károly Szemerédy, and bass András Palerdi. Balázs Kocsár conducts.

The first performance will take place at the opera house and be live-streamed on OperaVision and will be available to view for six months. The second performance will be a joint effort between the Hungarian State Opera and Müpa Budapest as part of the Bartók Spring event.
