How To Watch ‘The Queen of Spades’ Live in Cinemas From Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
By David SalazarOn Jan. 22, 2019, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden will present Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” in cinemas around the world.
The production will be directed by directed by Stefan Herheim whose previous work with the company includes “Les Vêpres Siciliennes” and will feature Aleksandrs Antonenko as Gherman; the Latvian tenor has previously performed in such operas as “Otello,” “Turandot,” “Il Tabarro,” “Pagliacci,” and “Manon Lescaut” with the company. He will be joined by Eva-Maria Westbroek, Vladimir Stoyanov, Felicity Palmer, and John Lundren, among others. Music Director Antonio Pappano will conduct the performance; his engagements this season include “La Forza del Destino” as well as “Der Ring der Nibelungen,” which he used as his vehicle to open the season.
The opera had its premiere on Jan. 13, with performances running through Feb. 1, 2019.
