The Houston Grand Opera is set to celebrate composer Carlisle Floyd in a memorial concert on February 11, 2022.

The showcase, which will also be live streamed via HGO Digital, will feature selections from some of his most notable operas including “Susannah,” “Of Mice and Men,” and “Cold Sassy Tree.”

Patrick Summers will conduct the performance, which will include the participation of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus and Orchestra as well as Houston Grand Opera Studio artists, both current and alumni.

The event is free for all and appropriate for all ages.

Floyd passed away in September of 2021 at the age of 95. Born in South Carolina, he would go on to become one of the most prominent American composers of the 20th century, his works performed at such venues as the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and San Diego Opera, among others.
