Haymarket Opera Company & Cedille Records to Release ‘Artaserse’

By David Salazar

Haymarket Opera Company is set for its second commercial recording on Cedille Records with Leonardo Vinci’s “Artaserse” (1730).

The recording, scheduled for release on March 13, 2026, features the original cast from Haymarket Opera Company’s American stage premiere of the work, presented in June 2025, and the Haymarket Opera Orchestra under the direction of Craig Trompeter. The cast includes countertenor Kangmin Justin Kim in the title role, with countertenor Key’mon Murrah as Arbace. Mezzo-soprano Emily Fons appears as Mandane, with male soprano Elijah McCormack as Semira. Tenor Eric Ferring sings Artabano, and countertenor Ryan Belongie appears as Megabise

Prior to Haymarket’s production, “Artaserse” had not received a professional staging in the United States. The release marks only the second complete recording of the opera.

In addition to the complete opera, a concurrent digital-only release will present the overture, all arias, one duet, and the final chorus, omitting recitatives except for the accompanied recitative preceding Arbace’s Act I aria, “Vo solcando un mar crudele.”

The album was produced by James Ginsburg and engineered by Bill Maylone and Eric Arunas. Recording sessions took place July 3 and July 5–7, 2025, at the Sasha and Eugene Jarvis Opera Hall at DePaul University in Chicago. The release follows Haymarket Opera Company’s 2022 recording of Joseph Bologne’s “L’Amant Anonyme.”
