Gran Teatre del Liceu Closes 2023-24 Season with Balanced Budget
By Francisco SalazarBarcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu has closed its 2023-24 season with a balanced budget.
The company announced that the season drew 285,000 spectators which was 4.4 percent more than last season. The 2022-23 season only drew 273,000 spectators. In total, the theater sold 86 percent of its performances.
Additionally, 35 performances were sold out and four LiceUnder35 performances sold out.
The theater also reported an average age of 50 and noted that subscribers averaged 64 years of age. Meanwhile, non-subscriber base averaged the age of 45.
The 2024-25 season opens on Sept. 25, 2024, with a new production of Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” directed by Àlex Ollé. Josep Pons conducts the production which will star Sara Jakubiak and Ángeles Blancas in the lead role.
