The female-led company Gothic Opera is set to present its updated version of Robert Planquette’s 1882 “Rip Van Winkle.”

Conductor Robin Wallington leads Robert Garland in the title role, with co-founder and artistic director Béatrice de Larragoïti as Gretchen, Stephen Whitford as Derrick, co-founder and communications director Alice Usher as Katrina, Valerie Wong as Hans, and Hannah Bennett in the role of Alice. Evangeline Cullingworth is the stage director.

Composer Leon Haxby created a new chamber orchestration of the opera for six instruments. This score is performed alongside the newly-written dialogue which brings the opera up to date while staying true to story and its intended humor. The operetta is sung in English, with supertitles provided.

Performances take place at Hoxton Hall in London Oct. 27 through Nov. 1.
