Glyndebourne has announced a major change for its upcoming production of “Il Turco in Italia.”

The Rossini opera will now be conducted by Sesto Quatrini, who will make both his Glyndebourne and UK debuts. The conductor will replace Giancarlo Andretta, who is unable to conduct due to COVID-19 quarantine restrictions relating to international travel to the UK.

Quatrini, the current Artistic Director of the Lithuanian National Opera, is also the founder of Les Voix Concertantes in Paris and Bare Opera in New York. He has led opera performances with such companies as Oper Frankfurt, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Belcanto Opera Festival, and Teatro la Fenice.

Quatrini will lead a cast that includes Rodion Pogossov, Elena Tsallagova, Andrea Mastroni, Michele Angelini, Mattia Olivieri, Désirée Baraula, and Anna-Marie Sullivan.

The opera is set to run from May 23 through June 20.
