Gdańsk’s Opera Bałtycka has announced that it was forced to cancel the premiere of Beethoven’s opera “Fidelio” on Oct. 3, 2020, after one member of the chorus tested positive for COVID-19.

“Opera Bałtycka, acting in accordance with the recommendations of the County Sanitary and Epidemiological Station, maintains all the possible safety rules for its employees, artists and guests. After one of our employees tested positive for COVID-19, we strengthened the security restrictions even further,” said the opera house in the statement.

“We have made a preventive decision to quarantine employees who had direct contact with an infected person. For this reason, we are forced to postpone the premiere of “Fidelio,” concluded the Opera Bałtycka.

The company set Oct. 23, 2020, as the new premiere date.
