The Metropolitan Opera has confirmed that Francois Girard will direct the upcoming production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin.”

The New York Times reported the update on Girard’s forthcoming project with the Met.

Girard’s staging will be made in collaboration with the Bolshoi, which was announced in 2017 alongside new renditions of “Salome” and “Aida.” This “Lohengrin” will first be seen in Russia in 2022 before coming to the Met stage in 2023. Anna Netrebko is set to star as Elsa in the opera while Yannick Nézet-Seguin will conduct.

Girard made his Met debut in 2013 directing a production of “Parsifal” scoring rave reviews and is set to open his new “Der Fliegende Hollander” on March 2, 2020. The new production of “Der Fliegende Holländer” stars Anja Kampe and Evgeny Nikitin with Valery Gergiev conducting.
