The Foundation for Contemporary Arts announced the 23 artists and collectives who will receive its $45,000 Grants to Artists awards.

Launched in 1993, the Grants to Artists awards are unrestricted, by-nomination grants that provide recipient artists working in Dance, Music/Sound, Performance Art/Theater, Poetry, and Visual Arts. Winners exemplify contemporary, experimental work being made today. The $45k grant provides the artists with the financial means to engage in any artistic endeavors they wish to pursue. For 2025, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts will award a total of $1,035,000.

This year’s recipients with ties to opera are choreographers Lisa Fagan and Lena Engelstein. Fagan choreographed  the opera “HILMA” at the Wilma Theater, produced in partnership with New York City-based theater company New Georges in 2024.

Past recipients include Missy Mazzoli, Petr Kotik, Meredith Monk, Holland Andrews, Du Yun, Tei Blow, and Raven Chacon, among others.
