Metropolitan Opera to Present ‘Fidelio’ Live in HD

The Metropolitan Opera’s 2024–25 Live in HD season will continue with Beethoven’s “Fidelio.”

The production will be shown in more than 700 theaters nationwide on Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Soprano Lise Davidsen sings the role of Leonore, a role she has sung to great acclaim at the Royal Opera House. She will be joined by David Butt Philip as Florestan, Tomasz Konieczny as Don Pizarro, Ying Fang as Marzelline, and Magnus Dietrich as Jaquino. Bass Stephen Milling rounds out the cast as Don Fernando.

Also of note amongst the cast members is René Pape as Rocco, in his return to the Met for the first time since he apologized for statements he made against the LGBTQ+ community while also revealed his struggles with alcoholism.

Susanna Mälkki returns to the podium to lead Jürgen Flimm’s production.

Gary Halvorson will direct the Live in HD presentation, and tenor Ben Bliss will host the transmission, sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes content and interviews during intermission.
