National Sawdust Announces 2024 Winter/Spring Lineup

National Sawdust has released the details of its 2024 Winter/Spring programming.

First up is “How does it feel to look at nothing” by composers and performers yuniya edi kwon and Holland Andrews.

Performance Date: January 12, 2024

Mezzo-soprano Clara Osowski and pianist Erika Switzer perform the world premiere of songSLAM commission prize-winner “Anger in Open Mouths: Three Sweet Songs” by composer Laura Nevitt and poet Viviana Gill. This concert take place in part of the Sparks & Wiry Cries awards.

Performance Date: January 19, 2024

In part of National Sawdust’s sparksLIVE project, “Only Voice Remains,” soprano Abigail Sinclair, vocalists Mahya Hamedi and Farnaz Ohadi, and Silk Road Ensemble‘s cellist Karen Ouzounian give a multi-genre recital.

Performance Date: January 20, 2024

The Composers Now Festival recognizes the recipients of the 2024 Visionary Awards, Dwight Andrews, Philip Glass, and Libby Larsen.

Performance Date: January 31, 2024

National Sawdust and the Metropolitan Opera present “Opera Evolved: Genre Fluidity.” The event includes discussions and performances that highlight genre-blending compositions.

Performance Date: February 22, 2024

“Opera Evolved” continues with “Revival of New Work by Living Composers.” This event compares the Metropolitan Opera’s plan to produce 17 contemporary works over the next five seasons with National Sawdust’s plan to commission five new pieces throughout its 2024–25 season.
