Fort Worth Opera has announced Mark Adamo’s “Little Women” will open its 2024-25 season.

Mezzo-soprano Kelly Guerra, fresh from her Metropolitan Opera debut, takes on the lead role of  Jo March. She is joined by mezzo-soprano Bridget Cappel as Meg, sopranos Mary Feminear as Beth, and Megan Koch as Amy. Mezzo-sopranos Kaswanna Kanyinda and Twyla Robinson, along with tenor Charles Calotta, baritone Erik Earl Larson, and bass-baritones Christopher Curcuruto and Seth-Emmanuel Clarke round out the cast. Tyson Deaton conducts the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Claire Choquette directs.

Adamo’s operatic adaptation of “Little Women” brings Louisa May Alcott’s coming-of-age novel to life on the operatic stage. The work was first commissioned by Houston Grand Opera in 1998. It was last performed by Fort Worth Opera in 2005,

Fort Worth Opera General & Artistic Director Angela Turner Wilson said in a press release, “Louisa May Alcott’s timeless story of the March sisters has been a fixture in American literature for over 150 years. Mark Adamo’s exquisite contemporary opera adaptation provides a rich new version of that story, breathing exciting life into the resonant themes of family, sisterhood, growing up, and coming home.”

“Little Women” performances will be held on Nov. 22 and 24 at the W. E. Scott Theatre in the Fort Worth Cultural District.
