Former Met Opera Director of Music Administration Reaches GoFundMe Goal

By David Salazar

Craig Rutenberg, the former Director of Music Administration at the Met Opera, has received his goal of $100,000 on GoFundMe to support him through a difficult moment.

Rutenberg recently launched a GoFund Mecampaign in which he revealed that following several surgeries in a year, he was evicted from his home and found himself facing homelessness after Medicare told him that he would no longer be able to remain at the physical rehabilitation facility he had been living in.

“I need some help getting back on my feet. Literally. I need help to pay for big uncovered medical expenses and a small place to live. I’ve run out of other options until I can work again – but I hope to “get by with a little help from my friends,” Rutenberg says in the official campaign page.

As of this writing, he has already surpassed the ask of $100,000 and received donations from such major artists as Kirill Petrenko, Joseph Calleja, Laurent Naouri, Emanuel Ax, Adrianne Pieczonka, Wendy Bryn Harmer, Stephen Wadsworth, Frank Lopardo, Gianadrea Noseda, Will Crutchfield, Brandon Jovanovich, and Elisabet Strid, among many others.
