Festival Aix-en-Provence Cancels 72nd Edition
By Francisco SalazarThe 72nd Festival Aix-en-Provence has canceled the 2020 edition due to the restrictions imposed by the President of the Republic on April 13.
In a press statement Pierre Audi, the festival’s director, noted, “This decision was very difficult to make, but our wish is above all to guarantee the safety of the spectators and spectators, artists and teams of the Festival. If conditions allow us, we study the possibility of offering, thanks to streaming, a presence of the Festival and its 2020 productions.”
“The cancellation of a Festival like that of Aix-en-Provence makes the audience a unique opportunity to experience the result of several years of creativity deployed by artists of all disciplines. They worked, in close collaboration with the Festival teams, to offer an equal celebration of music and theatre.”
The festival also announced the creation of a Support Fund for the Festival d ‘ Aix-en-Provence and also noted that all ticket buyers for the 2020 edition will receive a message in the coming days telling them how to donate or obtain a refund.
The Festival Aix-en-Provence is the latest major summer season to cancel following the Bayreuth Festival, Garsington Opera, Edinburgh Festival, and Chorégies d’Orange.
France currently has 143,303 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 15,729 confirmed deaths.
