Four of New York’s rising opera stars are set to perform a program of popular love songs from classical to ragtime and much in between at Broadway’s Supper Club, Feinstein’s/54Below on March 20, 2022. The featured artists have performed at the Metropolitan Opera in recent runaway productions.

Slated to sing are tenor Christian Mark Gibbs (Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess”/Met and Ricky Ian Gordon’s “Intimate Apparel”/Lincoln Center Theater), baritone Markel Reed (“Porgy and Bess”/Met and “Champion”/Boston Lyric Opera), soprano Makeda Hampton (“Porgy and Bess”/Met and Pop Up Opera Tour with Opera Delaware), mezzo-soprano Tesia Kwarteng (“Intimate Apparel”/Lincoln Center Theater and Terence Blanchard and Kasi Lemmons’ hit “Fire Shut Up in My Bones”/Met). Rounding out the cast is composer Felix Jarrar as music director and pianist. His recent work includes “In a Grove” with Mannes Opera and Barn Opera’s “Don Pasquale.”

Music on the program includes compositions honoring Black composers, “Habañera” (“Carmen”), “Lippen Schweigen” (“The Merry Widow”), “Make Them Hear You” (Ragtime), the world premiere of “Dreams Vibrate Under the Moon” (Jarrar), and “A Real Slow Drag” (Treemonisha), and more.
