Frankfurt-based Exsultate Project is partnering with Helio Arts Streaming Platform to present “Obscura Nox.”

The showcase, which is a modern retelling of Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave,” features Mozart’s “Exsultate, Jubilate” and new music by Iranian-Canadian composer Iman Habib. The 26-minute film stars mezzo-soprano Julia Dawson, and dancer Evie Poaros.

“’Obscura Nox’ explores themes of isolation, the relationship between perception and reality, and society’s morphine-drip addiction to our screens,” Dawson said in an official release. “The human mind has an incredible ability to craft its own experience. I wanted to create a fantastical exploration of someone moving from an external focus on screens and media to an inward focus and how, paradoxically, this allows them to engage more fully with the outside world.”

The production was directed by Mary Birnhbaum and choreographed by Claudia Shreier. The chamber ensemble, led by violinist Guillaume Faraut, featured musicians of the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, the Staatstheater Darmstadt, and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
