The Three Choirs Festival has appointed Grace-Evangeline Mason as Associate Composer for 2027 to 2029.

Mason is the second appointment in the Festival’s composer development program, following Gavin Higgins, who began the residency at the 2026 Festival in Gloucester. Each appointment spans three editions of the Festival.

Born and raised in the West Midlands, Mason is a British composer of orchestral, chamber, choral, electronic, and operatic music who was named “Face to Watch” for Classical Music in The Times 2020 Calendar of the Arts. Her music has been performed by ensembles including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and at festivals including the BBC Proms and MiTo SettembreMusica at Teatro alla Scala. She is a recipient of the BBC Young Composer of the Year award and the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize, and studied at the RNCM, the University of Oxford, and the Royal Academy of Music. Her orchestral work “The Imagined Forest” opened the 2024 Three Choirs Festival in Worcester, performed by the resident Philharmonia Orchestra under Samuel Hudson alongside Holst’s “Hymn of Jesus” and Stanford’s “Stabat Mater.”
