
Evan J Lawson’s ‘Labyrinth.’ Gets a Return Season

This multi-genre opera allows the audience to explore the Greek Myth of Theseus, Ariadne, and the Minotaur through an immersive experience. “Labyrinth.” confronts themes of shame, isolation and redemption through opera, ballet, and piano music. Classic Melbourne said of its first run, “Labyrinth, is packed a full range of energy and emotion into a new interpretation of the Greek tale of the Minotaur”
The cast features Szesiong Todd in the role of Theseus, Teresa Ingrilli as Ariadne, and Girl Whatever as Daedelus. Danae Killian joins the cast as the Minotaur and performs the dramatically-embedded piano concerto.
The creative team also includes dancer Ashley Dougan, instrumentalists Alex Macdonald and Kim Tan, as well as choreographer Ashley Dougan and director Cathy Hunt.
This one-hour, English opera runs Jan. 31 through Feb. 8 at the Abbotsford Convent — Magdalen Laundry and Industrial School. A “Tactile tour” performance is scheduled for the 3 p.m. showing on Feb. 8. The final performance will feature an audio description.
