Eva-Maria Westbroek Cancels ‘Parsifal’ In Palermo

Eva-Maria Westbroek has canceled her participation in the Teatro Massimo di Palermo’s upcoming production of Wagner’s “Parsifal.”

The soprano announced that due to family reasons she would have to bow out from the production. As a result, Catherine Hunold will takeover the role of Kundry. She joins a cast that includes Tómas Tómasson, Alexei Tanovistsky, John Relyea, Thomas Gazheli, and Daniel Kirch. Omer Meir Wellber conducts Graham Vick’s new production.

Hunold is a well-known French soprano who has performed in such operas as “Tristan und Isolde,” “Lohengrin,” “La Damanation de Faust,” “La Forza del Destino,” and “Ariadne auf Naxos.” She has also performed in Paris, Nancy, Toulouse, Liomoges, Strasbourg,  Brussels, and Rotterdam, among other major cities.

“Parsifal” opens on Jan. 26 and runs through Feb. 2, 2020.
