By Francisco Salazar

The Rossini Opera Festival has appointed Ernesto Palacio as Sovrintendente.

The festival announced that the appointment will be for a four-year period from 2019-2022. Palacio has been the Artistic Director of the ROF since 2016 and in March 2017, he assumed the role of Director of the Accademia Rossiniana; in September 2017, he took over from Gianfranco Mariotti in the role of Sovrintendente.

“With the appointment of Palacio, the Festival consolidates a strategy of renewal on solid foundations, started after Gianfranco Mariotti’s turnover last year,” The President of the ROF Daniele Vimini said in a press statement. “A new generation has taken on new responsibilities, and the reconfirmation of an expert guide like that of Palacio, accompanied by exciting results, allows the Festival to look at new challenges with strength and determination, starting from the internationalization, the expansion of programming and the increase in work for artists and workers, and the focus on growing the already very significant economic impact on the territory, as well as the image of Pesaro in the world. ”

“I thank the Members Assembly for the trust it has renewed for me. My vision of the ROF of the future foresees a strong development of the deseasonalization of the activity, through the organization of concerts, lyric productions, touring and the reopening of the Scenography Workshops; another aspect that will be developed is the internationalization of initiatives, thanks to the network of contacts created within the Rossini150 project, also through auditions in theaters and musical institutions chosen in the most interesting geographical areas,” Palacios added. “The first objective of the next four years must however be excellence: quality pays and we have seen that by doing so the public increases and consequently the economic income. “
