Bloomingdale School of Music has announced that Erika Atkins has been appointed as Executive Director, effective September 8, 2020.

Atkins will bring her 15 years of arts education experience, having most recently served as Deputy Director of the arts education non-profit Opening Act.

A graduate of George Mason University, Atkins took her love for the arts and developed educational operations, facilitated workshops, and served as a teaching artist with companies such as New Victory Theater in New York City and Levine Music Washington in D.C. Currently, she is also the Secretary of the Board of Directors for the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable, as well as a member of the Arts Education Council of Americans for the Arts, and the Anti-Racist Workshop Planning Committee for the National Guild of Community Arts Education.

“Not only am I honored for the opportunity to lead the Bloomingdale School of Music, I am excited to join an incredible and thriving creative community in my own backyard,” writes Atkins. “It is evident to me that Bloomingdale is a very special place. For over 50 years, the organization has been a fixture of joy, hope, and opportunity. Even through these unprecedented times, it has risen to the occasion of creating access. I look forward to extending Bloomingdale’s legacy of providing high-quality music education to everyone who seeks it.”
