The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Erik Rönmark as its new President and CEO. Rönmark will replace Anne Parsons who is retiring.

Rönmark will take over his new position starting March 7, 2022.

Rönmark has been a fixture of the organization throughout his career. The 44-year-old started off as a part-time assistant in the music library in 2005 before being named general manager eight years ago. In 2016, he became vice president of the organization.

“One of the reasons this really interested me is the culture we have here. The musicians, staff and board are just great people, and we have the most passionate supporters,” said Rönmark in a statement. “It’s very attractive that I don’t have to learn people’s names. It certainly feels like I can hit the road running.”

“I’m really, really happy, and I’m proud to continue to work side by side with Erik,” said DSO’s Music Director Jader Bignamini. “He is incredibly skilled, so smart and hard-working. We work so well together, and we have a lot of ideas for our future. He knows the business, but he also knows the culture of music and musicians. I’m so lucky to have him. I hoped it would happen, and now we have it.”

Rönmark’s appointment was made public on Dec. 9. during the DSO’s annual meeting of governing members.
