Encompass New Opera Theatre to Host Musical Salute Gala

Encompass New Opera Theatre’s Artistic Director Nancy Rhodes and The Board of Trustees have announced its 2024 music gala.

The evening hosted by Midge Woolsey of Thirteen/WNET and WQXR Radio, will feature recollections, tributes, and entertainment by well-known musical theatre personalities, as well as stars of stage and screen. The main event will see Brian Stokes Mitchell will present Tony Award-winner Leslie Uggams with the Encompass Outstanding Lifetime Achievement award.

Michael A. Kerker and Nancy Rhodes of Encompass serve as co-producers and directors. The 2024 gala chairs are Daniel J. De Siena and Ronald Thomas. The gala is held at the National Arts Club on Oct. 27, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Since its inception in 1975, Encompass has produced over 70 full-scale productions with orchestra and staged readings of over 168 new works, from jazz and cabaret to musicals, and opera. During the 2018-19 season, Encompass produced the world premiere of Edward Thomas and Joseph Masteroff’s opera “Anna Christie.”
