Emmanuel Music will present the East Coast premiere of Errollyn Wallen’s “Dido’s Ghost” on Oct. 18 and 19, 2025 at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The 2021 chamber opera by Wallen and librettist Wesley Stace, had its world premiere at the Barbican Centre on June 6, 2021. It revisits the story of Dido and explores the spectral aftermath of her despair and the lingering echoes of love and betrayal. The original premiere was performed on period instruments. This production will feature modern instruments.

The performances will be presented in collaboration with MIT, with Rebecca Miller Kratzer directing and Shura Baryshnikov serving as choreographer.

The cast features Carley DeFranco as Anna/Dido, David Thomas Mather as Aeneas, Jonathan Woody as Elymas/Sorceress, Katherine Maysek as Lavinia/Spirit, Morgan Mastrangelo as Ascanius/First Sailor, Mara Riley as Belinda, Sonja Tengblad as Second Woman, and Claire Huchthausen as First Witch.
