Elina Garanča, Pretty Yende & Nadine Sierra to Headline Teatro San Carlo’s ‘7 Deaths of Maria Callas’

The Teatro San Carlo di Napoli has announced it will present the “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” in December.

The company announced that the opera will be performed five times and will star  Elina Garanča as Carmen, Pretty Yende as Desdemona, Maria Agresta as Norma, Selene Zanetti as Tosca, Nadine Sierra as Lucia di Lammermoor, and Carmen Giannattasio as Cio-Cio San.

The opera, which is directed and acted by Marina Abramović, will be conducted Marko Nikodijević.

The “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” had its world premiere at the Bayerische Staatsoper in September following postponements due to COVID-19. The work was conceived by Abramović and features arias by Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, Bizet, and Donizetti.

The opera is set to open on Dec. 4, 2020 following a month of lockdown in Italy.
