Elīna Garanča, Franco Vassallo & Enea Scala Lead Royal Opera House Muscat’s 2026-27 Season

The Royal Opera House Muscat has announced its 2026-27 season.

The company revives its production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” by Franco Zeffirelli. The cast will include Franco Vassallo, Enea Scala, and Maria Kokareva, with the orchestra and choir conducted by Evelino Pidò. The Omani Opera Choir will also perform.

Performance Dates: Oct. 1 & 3, 2026


“Sindbad: The Omani Sailor,” will be presented after premiering in 2025. Composed by Hisham Gabr with an original Arabic libretto by Nader Salah El Din, the opera will bring together the Arab world to perform alongside the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Oriental Ensemble.

Performance Dates: Dec. 17 & 19, 2026


“The Opera!” which world premiered at the Royal Opera House Muscat in 2017 returns. Drawing on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, the storyline weaves arias from major operatic works into a continuous narrative, featuring music by composers including Verdi, Bellini, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Puccini. The opera is staged by Davide Livermore.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28 & 29, 2027


Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” will be performed in a children’s version. Created by ROHM and revived across two previous seasons, “The Magic Flute: Defeating the Monsters” reframes the main characters and staging for a young, interactive audience.

Performance Dates: April 3, 2027

Concerts 

Elīna Garanča joins the Orchestra of Teatro Regio of Turin and conductor Karel Mark Chichon for a concert performance.

Performance Date: Oct. 2, 2026


The company will present “A Grand Opera Gala” with artists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus alongside the Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Artem Makarov. The program brings together celebrated arias, duets and orchestral works from the great European, Russian and Belarusian traditions.

Performance Date: Jan. 12, 2027
