Eleonora Buratto is set to complete the Donizetti opera trilogy with Donizetti’s “Roberto Devereux” at the Palau de les Arts.

Buratto will sing the opera in a production by Jetske Mijnssen, with Francesco Lanzillotta conducting.

She will be joined by Lodovico Filippo Ravizza, Silvia Tro Santafé, and Ismael Jordi.

In a statement Buratto said, “After ‘Anna Bolena’ and ‘Maria Stuarda’ I’m moving straight on to Queen Elizabeth I, on whose life Donizetti, who was fascinated by the history of England, based three operas, the last of which, despite being entitled ‘Roberto Devereux,’ has as its central figure the “virgin Queen”. I’ve had the honour of being able to plan my debut in all three operas with Palau de les Arts, Valencia and am grateful for this opportunity, which in a just few years has allowed me to engage with such theatrically and vocally interesting characters, and through them to follow the composer’s creative evolution. Here in ‘Devereux’ it takes the form of rigorous orchestral composition and the tragic, psychologically multi-faceted figure Elisabetta, giving this great Donizetti character the fury of offended regality, but also more feminine sentiments such as the mind-obfuscating, heart-rending jealousy that resolves into extreme vocal virtuosity. It is this tragic force that makes this Elisabetta by Cammarano and Donizetti such a tormented, contradictory woman, powerful in the eyes of society but fragile at heart.”

“Roberto Devereux” will open on June 4 and will run through June 18, 2025.
