Dutch Prime Minister Extends Closures for Concerts

The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced that no concerts or sporting events will be allowed until September.

In his address to the to the nation, the Prime Minister announced new guidelines to reopening nation. With no mass gathering, Netherlands will become the latest European nation to cancel all summer music festivals.

The Dutch National Opera already canceled the end of its season including productions in June and July. The company opens its 2020-21 season with a production of “Mefistofele” in mid-September.

Rutte however, announced that primary schools will reopen after May 3 and suggested parents take kids to school by bike in order to avoid public transport. High Schools will be opened in June while Barbers, masseuses, sex workers and other close-contact professions will still stay closed.

The Netherlands currently has 34,134 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 3,916 confirmed deaths.
