The Dutch National Opera is set to perform the Dutch premiere of Mieczysław Weinberg’s opera “Die Passagierin.”
The production will open on April 17 and run through May 2, starring Jenny Carlstedt, Sibylle Maria Dordel, Nikolai Schukoff, Sylvia D’Eramo, Gyula Orendt, Madison Horman, Iida Antola, Eva Kroon, Margarita Nekrasova, Daria Brusova, Joe Chalmers, Jasurbek Khaydarov, Lucas van Lierop, Sophie Wendt, and Lukhanyo Bele.
Conductor Adam Hickox will lead the Netherlands Philharmonic in a production by Tobias Kratzer.
The music of Weinberg is one of the hidden gems of the 20th century and his 1968 opera was first performed only in 2006 and has since gained increasing recognition. In the 1930s, the Polish composer Weinberg fled the Nazi regime and settled in Russia, where, as a Jew, he once again faced fierce antisemitism.
