The Dutch National Opera and Dutch National Ballet take the stage together for the world premiere of Wayne McGregor and Samy Moussa’s “Jocasta’s Line.”

Choreographer and stage director McGregor along with composer Moussa combined the Greek tragedies “Oedipus Rex” and “Antigone.” Moussa composed new music for “Antigone,” but will use Stravinsky’s original score, with the addition of a women’s chorus. Moussa’s “Antigone ” will be sung in Ancient Greek, and centers on the tragedy of Oedipus’s daughter. “Oedipus Rex” will be sung in Latin.

British mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly and Canadian tenor Sean Panikkar take on the roles of Jocasta and Oedipus, respectively. They are joined by Bastiaan Everink, Rafał Siwek, Linard Vrielink, Frederik Bergman, and the Chorus of Dutch National Opera. Erik Nielsen will lead the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.

“Jocasta’s Line” takes place during the company’s Opera Forward Festival 2024. Performances run in Amsterdam March 9 – 28.
