Dutch National Opera Announces 2024 Opera Forward Festival

The Dutch National Opera has announced its 2024 Opera Forward Festival which will take place between March 8 and 17, 2024

Among the works presented is Ellen Reid’s “The Shell Trial.” The contemporary opera delves into the context of a game-changing court case in which multinational oil giant, Shell, was confronted with its contribution to the climate crisis. The opera includes a libretto by Roxie Perkins and is based award-winning theatre play, “De Zaak Shell,” by Anoek Nuyens and Rebekka de Wit.

The opera will help kick off the Dutch National Opera & Ballet’s new Green Deal, an initiative set of guidelines that promote and facilitate cooperation between the theatre and artistic teams to produce opera and ballet productions in a more sustainable way.

The program will also include “Jocasta’s Line,” as well as a selection of young and emerging artists who have been invited to showcase their work during the 2024 edition of OFF.

The singers of the Dutch National Opera Studio will also present a new production of Tom Johnson’s “The Four-Note Opera,” directed by Kenza Koutchoukali, which will be performed in our new hall Studio Boekman.
