Donald Brinegar Singers & JPL Chorus to Present ‘Erin go Bragh — Ireland Forever’

By David Salazar

The Donald Brinegar Singers and the JPL Chorus will present “Erin go Bragh — Ireland Forever,” a St. Patrick’s Day concert at St. James Episcopal Church in South Pasadena on March 15.

The repertoire spans centuries of Irish tradition, from the traditional “She Moved Through the Fair” — in an arrangement by Joshua Shank commissioned and premiered by the Singers — and W.B. Yeats’s “Down by the Salley Gardens” to Ed Sheeran’s “Galway Girl.” Also on the program is Mark Brymer’s “Letters from Ireland,” a choral suite weaving Celtic folk songs with diary entries and letters from ordinary Irish people of the 18th and 19th centuries. The Donald Brinegar Singers performed on the work’s official CD recording.

Dr. Donald Brinegar, Professor Emeritus of Music at Pasadena City College and director of choruses for the Pasadena Symphony and POPS, conducts the program.

The showcase commences at 4 p.m. local time.
