Director Ivo Van Hove To Make Royal Opera Debut With Janacek Song Cycle

The Royal Opera House is set to present a new staged version of Janacek’s song cycle “A Diary of One Who Disappeared at the Linbury Theatre. Performances are set for June 5, 6, and 8.

The work, which consists of 22 songs for tenor and piano, will be directed by renowned auteur Ivo van hove. The work tells the story of a boy who falls in love with a gypsy and leaves his family to be with her.

The cycle is being produced alongside the Muzietheater Transparant and will feature pianist Lada Vaelsova, tenor Ed Lyon, mezzo-soprano Wim van der Grijn, and a woman’s choir.

Surprisingly, this marks the Royal Opera House debut for van Hove, who has appeared with the Dutch National Opera, Paris Opera, Teatro Real de Madrid, Opéra de Lyon, and Komische Oper Berlin.
