Dayton Performing Arts Alliance to Present Mozart’s ‘Missa Brevis in C Major’
By David SalazarOhio-based Dayton Performing Arts Alliance will conclude its 2022-23 season with a special performance.
The program, which will feature Mozart’s “Missa brevis in C Major, K. 259,” will include performances by soprano Kayla Oderah, mezzo-soprano Allison Deady, tenor Carl Rosenthal, bass Sankara Harouna, and the Dayton Philharmonic Chorus.
“The program opens with the seventh of the eight ‘short masses’ that Mozart wrote between the ages of 12 and 21, and personally, I think it’s the best of the lot!” said conduct Neal Gittleman in an official press statement. “This one is called the ‘Organ Solo Mass’ because of the beautiful organ solo in the Benedictus movement. This Missa brevis performance showcases Dr. Steven Hankle’s Dayton Philharmonic Chorus and four of our wonderful Dayton Opera Artists-in-Residence as vocal soloists.”
Also on the program will be Saint-Saën’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with Sterling Elliott as the soloist. It all comes to a close with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2.
Gittleman will also host a “Take Note Talk” prior to each performance.
The concert is scheduled for May 19 and 20, 2023.
