Daniel McGrew, Mireille Asselin, Carla Huhtanen, Meghan Lindsay, Antonin Rondepiere Headline Opera Atelier’s 2026-27 Season

Opera Atelier has announced its 2026- 27 Season, titled “A Season of Heroes.”

The season opens with the Canadian premiere of Marc Antoine Charpentier’s “The Descent of Orpheus” at Toronto’s Koerner Hall. American tenor Daniel McGrew makes his company debut in the title role with soprano Mireille Asselin as Eurydice, bass-baritone David Witczak as Pluto, and mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel as Persephone.

Opera Atelier Assistant Music Director Dr. Christopher Bagan makes his Koerner Hall conducting debut, leading Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir. Choreography is by Lajeunesse Zingg, performed by the Artists of Atelier Ballet. Set design is by Gerard Gauci.

Performances: October 22 – 25, 2026


The season concludes with a revival of Händel’s “The Resurrection,” directed by Pynkoski. Soprano Carla Huhtanen sings the Archangel, soprano Meghan Lindsay is Mary Magdalene, mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel is Mary Cleophas, tenor Antonin Rondepierre is St. John the Evangelist, and bass-baritone David Witczak is Lucifer. David Fallis conducts Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, with choreography by Lajeunesse Zingg and sets by Gerard Gauci. Production underwriting provided by Vivian Elizabeth Pilar.
