The Czech Philharmonic has announced that it has canceled all performances until the end of February 2021.

Among the canceled concerts is the presentation of Janáček’s opera “Káťa Kabanová” on Jan. 21, as well as tenor Ian Bostridge’s scheduled recital on Feb. 7, 2021.

However, the orchestra announced a New Year’s Concert without an audience. The concert will livestreamed on the orchestra’s Facebook page. The concert will only include Czech music including a world premiere of the Concerto grosso by Jan Kučera. Tomáš Netopil will conduct the evening.

The Czech Republic is currently undergoing a severe COVID-19 wave. The country recorded 5,304 new cases recorded on Dec. 20 and has recorded 627,523 confirmed cases.

The Czech government has imposed very strict restrictions in order to curb the fast spread of the novel coronavirus.
