Coro Allegro to Open Season with ‘IDENTITY: Reclaimed’

By David Salazar

Coro Allegro will open its 2023-24 season with “IDENTITY: reclaimed” on Nov. 19, 2023 at Church of the Covenant.

The showcase will feature music by Ginastera, Macmilla, and Duruflé, with mezzo-soprano Clare McNamara and baritone Taras Leschishin as the soloists. Cellist Eugene Kim and organist Heinrich Christensen will join them.

“Coro Allegro’s season opener will evoke a colorful spectrum of emotions, from the rage of ‘The Lamentations of Jeremiah’ to Durufle’s soothing Requiem,” said Artistic Director David Hodgkins, who will also conduct the performance, in an official press statement issued by the company. “These intense and introspective works explore the individual against the tides of political violence. We invite audiences to reflect on historical echoes, from Biblical antiquity to 20th-century Latin America.”

The performance kicks off at 3 p.m. local time.

Coro Allegro is an award-winning LGBTQ+ and allied classical chorus in Boston that has presented 28 world premieres, three American premieres, and eight Boston premieres since its founding in 1991.
