Corinne Winters, Rihab Chaieb, Diana Damrau, Sir Bryn Terfel, Elsa Dreisig Headline Grand Théâtre de Genève’s 2022-23 Season
By David SalazarThe Grand Théâtre de Genève has announced its 2022-23 season which is centered on the theme of “Mondes en migration.”
The season commences with Gesualdo’s “Sparge la Morte.” The work will be directed by Davide et Giuseppe Di Liberto.
Performance Dates: Sept. 7 & 8, 2022
Halévy’s “La Juive” will be conducted by Marc Minkowski with scenic direction by David Alden. The cast includes Ruzan Mantashyan, John Osborn, Ioan Hotea, and Elean Tsallagova, among others.
Performance Dates: Sept. 15 – 25, 2022
Also on the schedule will be a performance of Halévy’s “L’Éclair” with Eléonore Pancrazi, Claire de Sévigné, Edgardo Rocha, and Julien Dran. Guillaime Tourniaire conducts.
Performance Dates: Sept. 18, 2022
Janácek’s “Katia Kabanova” will be directed by Tatjana Gürbaca and conducted by Tomás Netopil. Corinne Winters, Ales Briscein, Elena Zhidkova, and Stephan Rügamer star.
Performance Dates: Oct. 21 – 30, 2022
Sophie Negoïta and Julia Deit-Ferrand will star in “Rosa et Bianca,” which will feature music by Donizetti. Sybille Wilson directs.
Performance Dates: Dec. 14-21, 2022
Stéphanie D’Oustrac and Elsa Dreisig will star in “Maria Stuarda.” Edgardo Rocha and Gianluca Buratto round out the cast, which will be conducted by Stefano Montanari. Mariame Clément directs.
Performance Dates: Dec. 17 – 26, 2022
Jonathan Nott conducts “Parsifal” in a production by Michael Thalheimer. Daniel Johansson, Christopher Maltman, Tareq Nazmi, and Ariane Baumgartner star.
Performance Dates: Jan. 25 – Feb. 5, 2023
Fabio Biondi will lead “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria” in a production by FC Bergman. The cast will star Mark Padmore, Sara Mingardo, Navarro Colorado, and Julieth Lozano, among others.
Performance Dates: Feb. 27 – March 7, 2023
Schlomowitz’s “Electric Dreams” will star Jeanne Werner, Misaki Morino, Sarah Pagin, Lotte Bett-Deans, and Fernando Cuellar. Zoi Tsokanou conducts a production directed by Sara Ostertag.
Performance Dates: March 2 – 5, 2023
Jost’s “Voyage vers l’Espoir” will get its world premiere in a production by Kornél Mundruczó. Gabriel Feltz conducts a cast starring Rihab Chaieb, Kartal Karagedik, Ivan Thirion, Denzil Delaere, Julieth Lozano, and Omar Mancini.

Ausriné Stundyté stars in “Lady Macbeth of Mstensk” in a production by Calixto Bieito. Alejo Pérez conducts a cast that also includes Dmitry Ulyanov, John Daszak, and Ladislav Elgr, among others.
Performance Dates: April 30 – May 9, 2023
Antonino Fogliani conducts Nicola Alaimo, Roman Burdenko, Saioa Hernandez, Riccardo Zanellato, Davide Giusit, and Ena Pongrac in “Nabucco.” Christiane Jatahy directs.

Concerts
Soprano Diana Damrau will present a recital alongside Xavier de Maistre. They will perform music by Schubert, Rossini, Fauré, and Debussy.

Sir Bryn Terfel will join forces with Hannah Stone and Annabel Thwaite for a performance of music by Finzi, Wagner, Schubert, Schönberg, Novello, and Beethoven, among others.

There will be a New Year’s Concert starring Stanislas de Barbeyrac and Marina Viotti. Marc Leroy-Calatayud conducts the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève.

Soprano Nina Stemme and pianist Magnus Svensson will perform music by Schumann, Strauss, Weill, and von Koch.
Performance Dates: Feb. 4, 2023
Simon Keenlyside will perform music by Strauss and Schubert.

The Chorus of the Grand Théâtre de Genève will perform music by Pärt, Golovanov, and Rachmaninoff.

Anne Sofie von Otter teams up with Bengt Forsberg, Lawrence Power,a nd Fabian Fredriksson for music by Fauré, Loeffler, Reggiani, Ferré, Karlsson, Debussy, and Chabrier.

There will also be a number of other kinds of programs including Cineopéra, Apéropéra, special soirées, open rehearsals, La Souris Traviata for children and families, and musical brunches, among others.
