Conductor Sesto Quatrini Takes On Major Roles At Lithuanian National Opera

By Alan Neilson

The Lithuanian National Opera has appointed the Italian conductor, Sesto Quatrini, as its Artistic Director and as its Principal Conductor as of this month. During its 2108-19 season Maestro Quatrini will conduct “La Bohème,” “I Capuleti e I Montecchi,” and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” as well as a Gala Concert.

Although this season’s operas had already been scheduled before he had taken up the post, as of next season audiences can expect to see his influence on the operas being presented. Quatrini will aim to develop a philharmonic program to run alongside the theatre’s opera program.

This appointment marks another significant step in Sesto Quatrini’s career, who since conducting his first professional opera a little more than three years ago has seen his reputation grow. He is now a conductor with a rapidly increasing workload, and over the next 12 months will be conducting numerous operas, including “La Traviata” in Venice, “La Gazza Ladra” at the Sao Carlo in Lisbon and “Carmen” at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, as well as symphonic works at concerts halls in cities across Europe.
