Concert Touring Company Classical Movements Announces ‘Choral Escapes’

Classical Movements, a leading concert touring organization has announced a new program, “Choral Escapes,” a set of offerings crafted for amateur choral singers.

Participants will travel to stunning locations within the US to work with renowned choral directors on themed programs that de-emphasize formal performance while providing a safe and relaxing way to enjoy singing.

In its announcement, Classical Movements stated that participants’ health and safety will come first. The organization will require attendees to be vaccinated. Other virus mitigation measures include social distancing, masks, and aeration breaks as needed during rehearsals, performances, and group transportation.

Performance Dates:  August 1 -7, 2021: Charleston, South Carolina

With “Singing from Loss into Hope: New & Historic Works,” Jeffrey Douma, Director of the Yale Glee Club, professor of conducting at Yale School of Music, and Music Director of the Yale Alumni Chorus pairs Afro-Brazilian Baroque composer Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia’s “Requiem Mass” with a world premiere commission by Arianne Abela, and Beethoven’s little-known masterpiece, “Elegischer Gesang.”

Performance Dates: August 8 -14, 2021: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Finally, the company will showcase “Broadway Goes to the Caribbean: Classics of the Great American Songbook” with founding Artistic Director of Encore Creativity for Older Adults teaming up with members of the Encore Chorale to celebrate the return of choral music with selections from Broadway and the Great American Songbook.

Performance Date: October 24 – 30, 2021: San Juan, Puerto Rico
