Henry Purcell Society of Boston to Present ‘The Loves of Mars and Venus

The Henry Purcell Society of Boston will present John Eccles’s “The Loves of Mars and Venus” on Nov. 20, 2026, at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston.

The production marks what the society believes to be the work’s first Boston performance. Conductor and harpsichordist Ian Watson will lead the society’s period instrument ensemble, with Kirsten Z. Cairns directing the semi staged production.

The cast includes Carley DeFranco as Venus, David Thomas Mather as Mars, Cody Bowers as Erato, Mara Riley as Cupid, Daniel Fridley as Vulcan, and Kimberly Leeds as Jealousy and Aglaia.

Restoration theatre scholar Amanda Eubanks Winkler serves as an artistic advisor on the production.
