Greek composer Panayotis Karousos has announced premiere performances of two works from his operatic tetralogy “The Dawn of Civilization” in Athens this fall and winter.

“Prometheus Bound” is set to premiere on Oct. 19 at the Kallithea Municipal Theatre, while “The Light of Christianity” will premiere on Dec. 14 at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall. Both performances are free and open to the public.

The tetralogy comprises four interconnected operas including “Prometheus Bound,” “Olympic Flame – Trachiniae,” “Alexander the Great,” and “The Light of Christianity.” The cycle traces a cultural arc from ancient Greek myth through the spread of Hellenic civilization to the spiritual traditions of Christian Orthodoxy, drawing on sources ranging from Aeschylus and Sophocles to Arrian, Plutarch, and the Gospels of the New Testament.

The tetralogy has previously been performed in the United States, Canada, and Greece, including appearances at Lincoln Center in New York City.
