Composer and conductor John Rutter has launched “Choir-Guides,” an online tool to help choral singing learners around the world to learn their individual voice parts and make virtual choir recordings.

For singers without virtual recording experience, the program provides clear and simple instructions so that each participant can listen to the accompaniment while singing and recording with a different device.

Initially, the release will feature 15 pieces by Rutter and two by Mozart and Fauré. The tracks were recorded by members of the Cambridge Singers and accompanied on piano or organ by Richard Pearce of the Royal Choral Society.

“These are exceptional times and the choirs are responding to the challenge in new and ingenious ways. We hope this new tool will prove especially useful,” said Rutter, in a press release.

Rutter is a British composer and conductor who founded the Cambridge Singers back in 1981 and has recorded dozens of albums with the ensemble since 1983.
