
Climate Change at the Core of White Snakes Projects 2025 Season

“Our passion for the arts and our love for the planet are not mutually exclusive. For several years, White Snake Projects has been implementing environmentally friendlier practices off stage and beyond. This year, we are using opera’s onstage platform to have an amplified conversation with audiences to better educate, advocate, and converse about climate change,” said company founder and librettist Cerise Lim Jacobs in an official press release.
First up is “Sing Out Strong: Environmental Voices,” a performance of original works centered on the question “What does climate change mean for your generation?” The showcase features the Boston Music Project’s Vivaldi Orchestra under Sebatién Ridoré, local singers, and musicians.
Performance Dates: March 14, 2025
Next up is the organization’s inaugural community opera “To The People Like Us,” a work created in collaboration with young writers at 826 Boston’s Youth Advisory Board. The work explores themes of gentrification, climate change, and development in Boston. Jorge Sosa is the composer of the work, which features Nina Evelyn Anderson (soprano), Linda Maritza Collazo (mezzo-soprano), Melisa Bonetti Luna (mezzo-soprano), Jesús Daniel Hernández (tenor), accompanied by a local orchestra.
Performance Dates: June 28, 2025
Closing out the season is “White Raven, Black Dove,” a new commission set in the science fiction genre. The work uses live performance, CGi, and animation to explore race and climate change. The opera is by composer Jacinth Greywoode and librettist Cerise Lim Jacobs. It stars Charles Calotta (tenor), Sarah Cooper (soprano), Maggie Finnegan (soprano), Chuanyuan Liu (countertenor).
Performance Dates: Sept. 26 – 28, 2025
